Hand-Carved Olive Wood Gifts from the Holy Land December 8th
Did you know that 600 Christian families living in Bethlehem and are completely dependent on carving olive wood figurines for their livelihood? The recent clashes in the Middle East have stopped the tourism industry in Bethlehem, causing most of those families serious harm in earning their living and forcing many of them to leave their homeland. Emptying the land of Christ from Christians can have tragic consequences on the Holy sites. Issam from “Star of Bethlehem Group” came to the United States with a mission to help those families by selling their beautiful religious handicrafts. The cost of goods goes to benefit the Christian carvers to keep them working in the spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, the profit from sales goes directly to the needy Christian families in the Holy Land. Star of Bethlehem has been approved by the diocese of Jerusalem. Please take a look at those beautiful artifacts

SACRED GROUND: A FILM-BASED DIALOGUE SERIES ON RACE & FAITH Sacred Ground meets Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. in the Library. Sacred Ground is a film- and readings-based dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. Everyone is invited to join our weekly group as we walk through chapters of America’s history of race and racism, while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity. The 10-part series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories. Sacred Ground is part of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society. This series is open to all, and especially designed to help white people talk with other white people. Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day – all while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love. |
Hymns & Pimms
Sunday, August 18, 4:00 p.m.
Join us for singing and light refreshments. You are welcome to bring an appetizer to share.
Among the many gifts from the Church of England, one of the least known and most enjoyable is Hymns and Pimms. In this country, Pimms, a fruit drink, is not well-known. Those who have achieved a certain degree of maturity may remember that in the 20th century, we sang from books full of hymns. You’ll be given a hymnbook (try not to spill on the antiques). You’ll pick the hymns, the organist will see if he knows how to play it, then he’ll launch into it, you’ll join singing with gusto and glee. If you think you can’t sing….this is why we have Pimms. Scripture admonishes us to “…make a joyful noise…” Pitch and rhythm are for the clergy and choir. The only wrong notes are the ones you don’t try to sing.
