Church Chairs as Memorial Gifts
Dear friends,
As part of the re-design of the church we have removed all of the old pews and are replacing them with upholstered church chairs. They are comfortable, sturdy, and their angles and colors pick up architectural themes of the nave. The chairs will allow for much more flexibility in the large worship space.
The chairs are being made by Cardinal Church & Worship Furniture Co. of Azusa, California. They are well padded, have extra width, are interlocking, and stackable. There will be three sections of chairs: the choir, the nave, and around the back facing the memorial altar and baptismal font.
It is a centuries-old tradition in the Church for purchase of liturgical items, including such chairs, to be memorial gifts given in loving memory of those who have died. In this way, we incarnate our theology that we truly are worshiping in the presence of the whole communion of saints. You are invited to consider such a gift in memory of someone you love.
Each chair, along with book rack, plus shipping, will cost approximately $375. We will apply a small memorial plaque on the back of each chair given as a memorial gift. The wording for the plaque can be given to Carrie Maietta in the parish office. To make a gift for a chair, send a check to St. Francis, or visit www.stfranciswillowglen.org/donate and click the “Memorials” button.
I hope you will give prayerful thought to this as a way of forging the connections with those who’ve gone before, and those who will worship here after we are gone, even as we take our places in this time, in this place.
Gratefully,
The Rev. Maly Carswell Hughes
Rector
